What is the Entourage Effect?

Scientists have coined the synergistic action of the many compounds present in the Cannabis plant as the Entourage Effect. The Entourage Effect highlights the medicinal efficacy of a whole plant as greater than the sum of its parts.

This is why Family Tree offers solventless, completely Full Spectrum CBD which includes the entire range of cannabinoids in the plant.  A full-spectrum extract captures a majority of the therapeutic compounds (terpenes and cannabinoids) contained in the cannabis plant from the time it was processed, eliminating lipids and fats that lack any medicinal benefits.

When researchers study CBD (a compound found in the Cannabis plant called Cannabidiol), it’s analyzed mostly as a single molecule, extracted in biochemical labs. This research does not include study of whole plant extractions, which contain more than 400 trace compounds including CBD and THC. There are huge variations among strains based on the terpenes (aromatic qualities), flavonoids (flavor qualities), and cannabinoids contained within the plant.

Dr. John McPartland, a leading expert in cannabinoid research and alternative medicine from the University of Vermont, is quoted by Project CBD as saying, “Cannabis is inherently polypharmaceutical and synergy arises from interactions between its multiple components.”
